Protecting your private information is more important than ever before, so you probably use your paper shredder a lot. If that’s the case, have you oiled it lately? If not, you should start doing so because it will help your shredder stay in good shape. Oiling the shredder will keeps the parts of the machine greased up so they can shred without any problem. Here’s how to oil your paper shredder in three easy steps:

  • Take your bottle of shredder oil and dribble some on a piece of paper in a zigzag pattern. You don’t need to thoroughly saturate the sheet. Just drizzle enough oil to dampen the paper.
  • Insert the piece of paper into the shredder’s feed opening. The shredder should begin destroying the paper automatically.
  • Once the paper has been shredded, put the machine in reverse mode for about a minute. This distributes oil to the gears. Then, just shred a dry piece of paper to soak up any excess oil. That’s it.

Oiling your paper shredder is easy but it needs to be done on a regular basis so you can keep your machine in good condition. Consult your machine’s instruction manual to find out how often you should oil it. Good luck and happy shredding!
